Used mainly to maintain a bunch of SUSE for SAP machines (physical and virtual) along with a few virtual Red Hat systems. Eases the deployment of security patches as soon as they become available and helps with periodical updates.
  • Eases keep Patching Cycle up to date.
  • Manages not only SUSE, but other distros too.
  • Support for Ansible, besides the SaltStack, provides all the tools needed.
  • Some minor issues dealing with underlying postgres updates.
  • Procedure to add new channels require some care.
SUSE Manager allows to manage the update cycle centralizing all information in a convenient way. It's an essential tool when dealing with more than 10 to 20 systems. In environments with less than 20 systems the resources consumed by SUSE Manager maybe are not worth, against setting up a more simple tool. Anyway it gives a good overview of all systems.
  • Helps with the periodic update plan.
  • Gives an overview of current patching status.

It's been awesome using SUSE Manager around areas like tracking, auditing, and monitoring. As a database configuration for all our Linux servers, it has aided in harmonizing and centralizing our Linux environment into one unit.
  • Highly user friendly doesn't need too much tutoring to use it.
  • In built operation system with configuration that also allows third party software.
  • Capability of patching.
  • Should broaden VCP library.
I give thumbs up to SUSE Manager for it has really turned around our cost of Managing our database and also harmonizing our Linux environment. I highly recommend it since it does not at file and configuration but also allows you to use it with other tools which is not the case with other configuration tools. lastly, it has multiple OS for comparison and diagnosis.

We are using SUSE Manager as a local database configuration for all of our Linux servers and devices. This helps a ton because we were having issues compiling a list and organizing our Linux environment under one roof. We are able to easily find and manage our Linux environment with the application whereas before it was pretty messy. It's easy to deploy and manage.
  • Organization.
  • Management.
  • Cloud Features.
  • Allow other OS types.
  • Easier setup guide GUI.
  • Change a few of the layout options and locations.
Some areas where SUSE Manager is well suited for would be when we need to use multiple OS's to run different reports and diagnostics on different systems. We can manage all through this one instead of going to each one individually. It's good because we have a centralized site to manage the Linux servers. One downside is that it's a little finicky but we were able to work out the bugs. It would be less appropriate in an environment that does not run virtual physical and cloud-based servers and apps.
  • Management.
  • Organization.
  • Inventory.
  • Quicker turn around times.
  • More business, better growth.
  • Easy access for troubleshooting.
The other competitors also have a good platform and service, but we went with SUSE due to cost. The price was best and we needed to keep under a certain budget. The functionality was perfect for what we needed so we took the step forward. This allows us to manage our Linux environment within the manager and update or deploy specific tasks to each as needed.
